The Beauty of the Historic Church

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. – Psalm 96:9

I believe the world will be saved by beauty. – Fyodor Dostoevsky

Though we are surrounded with beautiful things, we live in a beauty-starved world. Few of us take the time to consider how creation, in all its variety and splendor, is a theophany—how it participates in the life of God, containing and revealing his goodness. With modernism and post-modernism we have learned to ignore the ways in which the realities of this world sacramentally point to greater eternal realities.

At All Souls Anglican Church we aim to slow down and look up in our liturgy. We contemplatively lift up our hearts into the life of God through the Liturgy of the Word (Scripture) and the Liturgy of the Table (Communion). We seek to worship Christ in “the beauty of holiness,” to behold his beauty and holiness and receive it into ourselves as those who are being conformed into his image (Romans 8:29).
